General Guidelines for Use with the Thermotex™ Infrared Therapy System Neck Appliance

The average equine head weighs approximately 80 pounds and the support of this lies completely on the neck. Infrared heat therapy applied to this cervical musculature provides a relief of soreness and a more relaxed positioning of the head.

These listed steps should be followed when applying the Thermotex Infrared Therapy System neck appliance:

• Before initial therapy, make sure the animal is properly retrained by either tying up the head or placing the animal in cross-ties.
• Insure that the neck area is clean and free of all topical applications of any medications, liniments or sweats.

• Preheat the neck appliance by plugging in and letting it warm on the high setting for a few minutes.
• Properly place the appliance on the animal and secure with either the straps or use a soft cotton leg wrap.
• Plug in the neck appliance and make sure the cords are out of reach of the animal's mouth and feet.
• Turn the setting on high for at least the first 10-15 minutes of therapy.
• The remainder of the determined therapy can be accomplished at the low setting on the control switch.
• After the therapy is finished, clean the inside of the neck appliance with a mild disinfectant, dry and store in a clean place.
• A thorough massage using both light and deep techniques is ideal after using the Thermotex Infrared Therapy System neck appliance.
